House Supervisor

South Suburban is a 260 bed hospital with a level 2+ nursery and 24 bed Emergency Room. We also have a 5 star skilled nursing facility on site and 2 Davinci Robots in our surgical services area.

Purpose:
Responsible for the supervision and administrative decision making for the care and coordination of nursing and patient care services. Represents nursing and hospital administration and acts as a liaison between management, nursing and other departments. Provides clinical expertise to patients and staff and/or assists staff in locating clinical resources to meet patient needs.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in clinical nursing with demonstrated clinical expertise. 
  • Previous experience as a House Supervisor preferred.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision~making and listening skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and establish/build relationships with others.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of Illinois.


Accountabilities:

  1. Participates, observes and/or acts as a resource to staff for patient related clinical problems. Participates, observes and /or acts as a resource in clinical situations such as medical alerts: arrest, rapid response, admissions, transfers, and clinical monitoring of unstable patients.
  2. Participates, observes and/or acts as a resource to staff for patient related service problems. Collaborates with Providers to ensure optimal patient care and effective utilization of resources. Provides support for staff to effectively problem solve patient service issues and unit issues. Acts as a patient advocate by responding and intervening in patient and visitor concerns, performing service recovery, as needed.
  3. Initiates investigation of patient safety events and medication errors, ensures proper documentation and a corrective action plan is in place.
  4. Participates, observes and acts as a resource for staff regarding patient related systems problems. Acts as a liaison for staff to ensure processes are in place for patients to receive an optimal level of patient care. Collaborates with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff and hospital administration to facilitate the provision of quality care.
  5. Identify trends in system problems and notifies the unit and/or department manager of the issue.
  6. Assists with patient admission, transfer and discharge to facilitate timely process throughout the system. Provides direction, in collaboration with the patient command center on patient transfers and/or reassigns staff to accommodate admissions, if need is identified. Completes appropriate database documentation.
