CLINICAL INFORMATICS ANALYST II - IT HOAG CLINIC EPIC

The Clinical Informatics Analyst team implements, optimizes and maintains clinical and revenue cycle technology and software within the assigned areas in partnership with clinicians and as directed by Clinical Informatics Specialists and the IT Revenue Cycle Team.

 

The Clinical Informatics Analyst applies an understanding of overall patient flow and operational process in the acute, ancillary and ambulatory areas. The role implements and establishes workflows/processes in areas of low to moderate clinical complexity within the HER.

 

The Clinical Informatics Analyst team provides education and training, implementation, elbow support, and troubleshooting for clinical information systems. The CI Analyst must be skilled in the use of clinical and/or revenue cycle technology and apply information sciences knowledge. Superior communication skills are necessary. The Informatics Analyst at all levels is expected to model professional behaviors. This CI Analyst team is in a high visibility position across the organization and is always required to provide excellent customer service.

 

 

Clinical Informatics Analyst I - Non-Licensed:

• The entry level CI Analyst I works under the guidance of higher-level CI Analysts or CI Specialists.

• Provides training on the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following established training scripts

• Develops the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully pass EHR vendor module credentialing within 6 months, or is already credentialed in at least one EHR module

• Understands overall patient flow and operational processes for acute, ancillary and ambulatory areas

• Supports effective and efficient use of standardized workflow

• Participate in the CI Analyst on-call rotation

• Assist with projects as directed to roll out established workflow

• Communicate clinical and technology changes, upgrades, and downtimes using established scripts and guidelines

• Use established tools and processes to collect and summarize data relevant to the EHR

• Support implementation of upgrades and optimization by using defined scripts and processes including testing, training, and elbow support

• Assist in gathering requirements for EHR optimization requests

• Distribute customer facing training and communication materials (such as Tips and Tricks)

• Utilize effective interactions and positive interpersonal skills in dealing with clinical and IT customers

 

Clinical Informatics Analyst II - Non-Licensed

• The CI Analyst II works under the guidance of higher-level CI Analysts or CI Specialists.

• The CI Analyst II can perform all the duties of the CI Analyst I.

• Resolves low clinical acuity and moderate non-clinical workflows needs as assigned.

• Serve as the Clinical Informatics/IT liaison to assigned departments demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of patient flow and operational processes

• Participate in focused rounding, working with site leaders to identify trends that inhibit the effective use of technology

• Identify and communicate the impact of EHR technology changes, upgrades, and downtimes

• Monitors customer satisfaction with the use of the EHR or ancillary systems, and develops, delivers, and measures interventions where possible

• Coordinate and monitor the implementation, evaluation, optimization and maintenance of clinical and or revenue cycle technology and projects within the assigned area in partnership with other team members and Leaders

• Perform moderate level analysis of data such as analysis of charge data, order entry data, bar code scanning data, or security roles/templates in Epic

• Serve as first stop for the escalation of CI Analyst I issues in order to provide guidance or resolution; if needed escalates to the level CI Analyst III, or CI Analyst Lead.

• Partner with Revenue Cycle or Clinical Informatics Specialists to adapt data collection tools and processes to perform data analysis and determine preliminary recommendations

• Assists with communicating the impact of upgrades and may participate in clinical or revenue cycle councils or committees to communicate changes to clinicians and system users.

• Uses defined scripts to support the optimization of end-user workflow; perform testing, and training; and provide elbow support

• Update training content and scripts and may create customer facing training and communication materials (such as Tips and Tricks)

• Provide input to the governance optimization process by assisting with gathering requirements from optimization requests and communicating prioritized requests to management.

 

Education, Training and Experience

Required:

Clinical Informatics Analyst I - Non-Licensed

• 2 years’ clinical training and or non-licensed clinical experience

• 2 years’ experience facilitating training programs including developing training content

• Minimum 1 years’ experience in implementation and support of a clinical system, including providing department subject matter expertise and or end user support.

• Bachelors or Associates Degree in a Computer Science or related field (e.g., Communication, Education, Business) or Clinical field with proven knowledge and experience with computer applications/systems utilized in a healthcare organization

• Obtain one Vendor credential within 6 months’ of joining as assigned.

 

Clinical Informatics Analyst II - Non-Licensed In addition to the above the CI Analyst II will have the following:

• 3+ years’ experience supporting clinical training and or non-licensed clinical experience including experience designing and facilitating training programs and developing training content

• 1+ year EHR Vendor Credentialed Training experience such as Epic or proficiency/certification

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in clinical information systems implementation and support or as a department subject matter expert including end user support.

• One Vendor credential as assigned.

 

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s or Masters’ degree with training experience in area assigned or previous lead or charge experience

• Previous experience with Epic including Credentialed Training

 

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required:

• Knowledge of adult learning, instructional design, and curriculum development

• Able to develop training curriculum with minimal direct supervision

• Able to design and deliver training programs for the clinical community

• Competency in Clinician and Revenue Cycle use of information systems by working with CIS and or Rev Cycle team members and through direct observation

• Current CA driver’s license required for local travel

 

Preferred:

• Able to develop training curriculum with minimal direct supervision

• Able to design and deliver training programs for the clinical community

• Advanced computer and training skills

• Ability to operate a variety of computer software and audio/visual equipment

• Provide programs based on adult learning principles

• Advance experience with Microsoft tools, including Word, Excel and Visio

 

License and Certifications

Required:

High-School Diploma or equivalent

CI Analyst level I will obtain a Vendor certification within 6 months of joining.

CI Analyst level II and above will be current in one or more Vendor certifications.
