Libbey is looking to add a Buyer to its global sourcing team to develop and maintain strategic relationships with appropriate suppliers to ensure market competitiveness and reliable/continuous sources of supply, that are available to service our business. The Buyer will serve as the linkage between our global commercial efforts and challenges, and global supply base to ensure goods are available at the appropriate trade-off within the cost, quality, delivery and cash investment. 

 

This position will also serve as the internal expert on global third-party factory presence and ensure availability in the assigned category of goods, like glassware, flatware, dinnerware and tabletop products of alternative materials. Successful candidates will have the ability to effectively work with and within other countries and cultures, value diversity and represent Libbey diplomatically.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a working knowledge and relationship with key stakeholders, including the supply base, new product development, sales, marketing, quality and operations
  • Maintain close contact with our commercial teams to identify, evaluate and meet the needs of trends and market shifts through leveraging products and capabilities of third-party supplier factories
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers
  • Provide appropriate sourcing for new product development projects
  • Maintain appropriate database of suppliers and pricing information
  • Coordinate, maintain good relationships with and monitor all international factory and supplier activities
  • Work with quality engineers to resolve quality issues with customers and suppliers
  • Attend and support trade shows and customer meetings as needed
  • Closely monitor global trends in the assigned category of goods and follow emerging market activities

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a preferred major in International Business, Marketing, Finance or Supply Chain
  • 2-5 years industry experience; merchandising and/or food service/retail buying experience is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Bilingual language skills preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, willing to partner with others and communicate differing perspectives
  • Strong critical thinking skills with an ability to analyze, evaluate and form judgments
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Ability to manage projects and resources efficiently, to meet team and company goals
  • High attention to detail and consistent follow through is required
