  Check us out on Facebook!   The RNFA works in collaboration with surgeons and health care team members to facilitate optimal outcomes for patients undergoing surgical procedure. Registered Nurses practicing as first assistants in surgery are functioning in an expanded perioperative nursing role.  The RNFA provides developmentally appropriate patient care using the nursing process under the direct supervision of the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill and critical thinking necessary to assist in performing a safe operation. Develops an individualized nursing plan of care in response to specific patient needs within a defined scope of practice and AORN standards. Communicates with other members of the healthcare team to assure critical information is relayed throughout the perioperative period.

  Our Operating Room

We offer general surgical procedures, as well as procedures in Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Women's Health, Eye, Spinal. Dental and Urological Services. With advanced imaging and using the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques, more than 70 percent of our surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis.


More information about our Operating Room:

  • 11 Main OR Suites and 1 Neurology
  • On average, Additional perform 29 - 40 cases daily and roughly 600/month
  • Procedures Performed: da Vinci Robot (SI and XI), orthopedic, spine, neuro, and general surgery
  • Teamwork is heavily focused to promote better patient experience
  • A supportive culture motivated on fostering educational opportunities and specialty certification
  • Leaders on this unit have a passion for supporting nurses in reaching their professional goals, excellent practice, and collegial relationships

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program (required)
  • BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited school of Nursing (preferred)
  • Graduate of an RNFA program accepted by the Certification Board Perioperative Nursing. (required)
  • 3 years of experience in perioperative nursing. (required)
  LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
  • Current licensure as an RN in the state of Virginia or current multi-state compact RN license with eligibility to practice in VA is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (required)
  • CNOR certification (required)
