Safety Engineer

Position Description

Performs safety analysis and projects aimed to prevent, reduce or eliminate potential risk and liability. Develops, administers, facilitates and/or coordinates safety and health loss prevention programs. Investigates accidents and employee complaints as necessary; reviews trends and suggest preventative measures.  Maintains security systems and facilitates compliance with related security policies.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Ensures compliance with Federal, State and local safety and health regulations through inspecting the work environment, machinery and equipment for conformance with governmental and company standards
  2. Provides compliance direction and guidance to facility management
  3. Implements and facilitates health and safety training programs
  4. Responds to problem or crisis situations and conduct investigation as necessary
  5. Executes compliance inspections and audits and perform follow-up as necessary which may include training and/or process recommendations to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions and to ensure proper risk management
  6. Works with corporate security on installation, maintenance, upgrades and monitoring based on equipment life cycle of facility systems as necessary and generates all Sarbanes-Oxley and Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) required reports
  7. Ensures all security related Incidents are reported to plant management and corporate security; develops recommendations to address incidents, and presents findings
  8. Implements corporate safety policies, procedures, and standards
  9. Perform other duties as assigned
Job Skills Requirements
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of safety engineering, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and manufacturing processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent investigative, problem solving and decision making skills including listening skills and sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently to carry tasks/projects through to completion while meeting established deadlines
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
EducationBachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering or related field, or equivalent education and experienceExperience Requirements

Minimum of 3 years safety engineering experience preferred; one year of safety experience required
