System responsibility for coding practices that assure accuracy, optimal reimbursement, adherence to coding guidelines, regulatory compliance, and integrity of coded data used for billing and external reporting. Implements related policy and procedure to support all activities. Serves as operational leader, coding expert, advisor and consultant, collaborating with revenue cycle teams, compliance department, quality and PI team, other HIM leaders, and physicians to achieve system and departmental goals. Responsible for hiring, training, monitoring, and on-going education of all GHS Health Information Management coding team members. Oversees vendor relations and contractual compliance. Identifies and implements supporting technology. Assures coding applications are optimized and compliant to current coding guidelines.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports..Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree 

Minimum Experience

5 years progressively responsible experience in health information management or revenue cycle operations with at least 2 years experience as a coding supervisor.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses JOB RELATED CERTIFICATION - COTRSpecific Acceptable Credentials (if applicable)

If Bachelor's degree- RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CCS-P

If Associate's degree- RHIT, CCS or CCS-P

 

In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements

In lieu of the education and experience listed above, an Associate's degree and 7 years progressively responsible experience in health information management or revenue cycle operations with at least 2 years experience as a coding supervisor may be substituted.

Other Required Experience

Large hospital or healthcare system experience - Preferred

Epic experience- Preferred

Multiple credentials in combination with RHIA or RHIT - Preferred

Masters degree in HIM or Business Administration - Preferred
