Operations Manager

The focus of this position is to provide leadership to the operations of the plant. It is the responsibility of this individual to ensure that the employees work in a safe environment and have the equipment and training necessary to do their job in a safe, high quality and efficient manner. Aligns the site goals with corporate short- and long-term strategies and objectives. The Operations Manager will work with a union workforce and must foster a cooperative environment through a clear understanding of work rules, policies, CBA, etc. This position is responsible for assuring all procedures are followed in achieving the highest level of productivity in the most cost efficient manner without jeopardizing the integrity of the product while meeting the specifications and requirements of our customers.


This position hires, trains and evaluates the performance of a production team that includes first line shift supervisors and staff managers who in total direct the work of 180+ employees over 3 shifts. The incumbent monitors a variety of operating data, identifies problems or efficiencies and works with a cross-functional team of managers, supervisors and support staff to improve plant performance through applications of Operational Excellence, Lean Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, etc.  The incumbent works with Production Planning & Scheduling, Quality, Engineering and the site Continuous Improvement (CI) resources as well as corporate support staff to improve equipment, processes and performance with the monitoring of changes to confirm desired effectiveness has been realized.



  • Drives the safety culture among the employees and work towards the goals of being a zero accident facility.
  • Manages all operations of the manufacturing/production-staging facilities, ensures that all operations comply with current Good Manufacturing Procedures and external Food certification bodies, reviews and approves Standard Operating Procedures for all plant operations, and monitors training and enforcement to ensure SOP’s/WI’s are followed.  Assures site compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Develops staffing and cost proposals for the fiscal year, and monitors costs and productivity throughout the year to ensure operational goals are met.
  • Monitors all training and provides development opportunities to operations staff.
  • Monitors production schedules and adjusts staffing to meet these schedules.
  • Provides leadership to safety efforts within the plant, monitoring safety performance and ensuring coaches provide appropriate training and direction to provide a safe working environment.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies & rules of conduct and addresses performance issues appropriately.
  • Responsible for fostering a strong Corbion - Union partnership including all performance management, corrective action regarding grievances and the development of company-focused collective bargaining proposals for negotiations.
  • Incumbent provides leadership in process improvements, working with process engineers, technical transfer resources, operational supervisors and other continuous improvement support staff to improve procedures and/or evaluate processes for long-term sustainability.



  • Demonstrated leadership and strong coaching / mentoring capabilities.  Must be a proven leader with capabilities and experience in the leadership and motivation of employees within a manufacturing facility.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to understand and interpret operating data as well as budget, safety, audit and inspection reports.
  • Ability to develop systems to support continual improvement that support quality, safety and production
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Dairy / Food Science or other closely aligned field combined with 7+ years of manufacturing and operations experience with management experience in a cGMP environment strongly preferred.
