Monday – Friday, 8:30AM – 4:30PM; flexibility for occasional nights and weekends when necessary

Job Summary:

The Housing Coordinator will work to support the Mission of My Sisters’ Place which is committed to ending homelessness and empowering women, families, and others in Greater Hartford to achieve independence and stability in their communities by providing housing and supportive services.

The Housing Coordinator holds primary responsibility for the Housing Coordination Programs that provide the administration of the DMHAS Bridge Rental Subsidy and Security Deposit Loan fund money for rental assistance and resource information regarding housing for DHMAS clients. This position will also include the administration of the Harford Foundation for Public Giving grant that helps with security deposits and rental subsidies for non-DHMAS clients.

The Housing Coordinator interfaces with DMHAS Staff, MSP Executive Director, Vice President of Programs & Operations, supervisor, program staff, volunteers, other organizations, landlords, vendors, individuals, families and children of our agency.


  • Develop and maintain working relationships with landlords and property management agencies. Assure leases and paperwork for clients are up to date.
  • Interview clients and coordinate application forms, guidelines and other services necessary for housing programs.
  • Coordinate annual recertification of program eligibility guidelines and unit inspections.
  • Submit monthly and quarterly reports to Assistant Program Director.
  • Assure DPAS entry and filing is completed on an ongoing basis.
  • The Housing Coordinator will cover for Assistant Program Director when on vacation or sick.
  • Provide housing resources to DMHAS clients. Instructs clients on tenancy skills. This will take place with clients individually and in groups.
  • Mediate problems/issues between landlords and clients.
  • Perform rental unit inspections under the guidance of the Assistant Program Director.
  • Helps streamline practices, processes and procedures for the continuous improvement of the organization and to the program.
  • Communicate via agency email, telephone or written information to other appropriate agency staff on a regular basis.
  • Attend all MSP agency and staff meetings as well as mandatory trainings.
  • Perform any other task that will assist the Organization in carrying out its mission, as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work with persons with history of mental illness and/or substance abuse.
  • Self-starter, able to work and make decisions independently.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines; ability to prioritize tasks. Works with a sense of urgency

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a can-do positive attitude

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in a related field preferred; and at least 1-2years related work experience.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must have valid Connecticut driver’s license and clean driving record with proof of automobile insurance.


  • Will commiserate with experience. Range: $37,000-$43,000
