R&D Manager - Dry Etch Process Development

As Managers of Dry Etch Process Development Engineering, we are responsible for continuously improving the capabilities of the R&D process organization. This team passionate about developing new processes and equipment technology to support Micron’s NAND development projects. As Managers, we are responsible for setting a strategy for future technology development and engaging with suppliers to develop the requirements to meet Micron’s technology roadmap. We partner with the other Process Development teams, Process Integration, Manufacturing Development, and Planning to develop robust processes and prepare for pilot ramp and transfer. We directly participate and influence the worldwide equipment and alignment team for you process area. Additionally, we are responsible for the career development of your team and maintaining a safe environment by ensuring safety policy is followed for new processes, equipment, and personnel.


In this role, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage efforts and setting the strategy for developing process technology for the assigned products in Process R&D
  • Provide day-to-day project management and technical advice for your development team
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with multiple customers to set priorities for your team
  • Resolve yield and defect issues related to your process area
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Development Engineering team to meet R&D product quality and cycle time goals
  • Work with R&D Management, Process Integration and High Volume Manufacturing Sites to regularly align on project priorities, timelines, and needs
  • Engage manufacturing sites, Manufacturing Integration and Central Teams to provide technical direction and maintain alignment between production and R&D
  • Drive continuous process and efficiency improvements to meet the needs of PI and manufacturing by effectively engaging with equipment development team and suppliers
  • Interacting with equipment and chemical vendors to ensure alignment and timely progress on our roadmaps, as well as foster a productive and positive relationship
  • Provide regular feedback to your team members on performance, developing a career plan and mentoring the team to support their professional development
  • Set and communicate performance goals for the team, and conduct goal based performance evaluations for all team members
  • Minimum five years' process development experience at Micron or equivalent experience at another company, or experience as process lead at a high-volume manufacturing site
  • Positive relationship building skills, both with internal and external customers
  • Structured problem solving capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills (written, verbal and presentation)
  • Experience in being a mentor to manage the performance of direct reports
  • Ability to seek opportunities for continuous improvement, as a team member, leader and for the organization
  • PhD/M.S, in: Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, plus 3 years or greater in the semiconductor industry
  • B.S. with an afforementioned degree with 5 to 10+ years of experience
