    About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20.

    Responsibilities
    • Disassemble, examine, and rebuild a variety of intricate fuel-injection systems, air compressors, radiators, and other cooling system components and governors.
    • Provide technical assistance to mechanics of lower grade in resolving problems encountered in the rebuild of mechanical systems when standard trade practices do not produce the desired results.
    • Utilize a variety of diagnostic and test equipment to determine causes of failure.
    • Plan and lay out the sequence of work from blueprints or drawings which may be incomplete regarding wiring required on prototype locomotives.
    • Use voltmeters, micrometers, torque wrenches, drill presses, and other hand tools common to the trade.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
    • This is a drug testing position and is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program governed by Army Regulation (AR) 600-85 and incumbent will be required to sign a Department of the Army (DA) Form 5019.
    • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 76% or more of the time to areas throughout the Continental United States (CONUS)
    • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Locomotive License throughout the duration of employment.
    • Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable hazardous/waste management training throughout the duration of employment.
    • Incumbent must obtain and maintain any applicable Motor Vehicle License(s) associated with position's driving duties throughout the duration of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. Overhaul, repair, test, modify, troubleshoot, and rebuild a wide range of types and sizes of railroad diesel-electric locomotives and locomotives cranes. Test diesel engines and related fuel injection and control systems associated with electrical power generation sets. Repairs, replaces, or fabricates damaged or defective parts; and tests for proper operation prior to and after installation on the end item. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    • Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision
    • Physical Effort: Lifts, carries, and pulls parts of units, test equipment, and tools weighing up to 45 pounds. Lifting devices are available for heavier items. Kneels, stoops, crouches, and stands for long periods of time. Climbs ladders or reaches above head to work on components and assemblies. Required to drive and/or ride in semi tractor-trailers or panel vans for extended periods of time.
    • Working Conditions: Works inside shops, generator enclosures, control units, and frequently outside. Subject to fumes, extremes of weather conditions, and occasionally is in close proximity to high-voltage lines and equipment. Subject to serious injury or death by contact with high-voltage lines and to less serious cuts and bruises when handling tools and materials. Frequently exposed to dirt and grease, which soils hands and clothing

    NOTE: Incumbent will be assigned in a temporary duty (TDY) travel status to support functions associated with, but not limited to, the overhaul, rebuild, modification, and testing of a variety of electrical systems and related mechanical components of a wide range of types and sizes of railroad diesel-electric locomotives, locomotive cranes, and diesel-electric power generating sets. Incumbents will be physically located at the Defense Non-Tactical Generator and Rail Center (DGRC), Hill Air Force Base, Ogden Utah in time increments NTE 179 calendar days. Temporary duty status in support of DGRC will continue until formal transfer of function to Anniston Army Duty. At such time, positions will be physically and permanently located at Anniston Army Depot in the Directorate of Production.
    • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
    • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
    • Two year probationary period may be required.
