Founded 150 years ago by a Civil War veteran and pioneer, Gerhold Concrete Company, Inc., A CRH Company, is a major regional supplier of concrete and building materials with 15 locations across Nebraska and Iowa, serving areas in central and northeastern Nebraska, southeastern South Dakota, and western Iowa. 

 

Summary

 

Manages personnel, production, facilities and equipment for Gerhold Concrete operating companies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate personnel.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Manage the Gerhold Concrete operating company in accordance with the policies, principles, philosophy and procedures established by Corporate Management with regard to personnel, customers, facilities and equipment.
  • Develops plans for efficient use of materials, equipment, and employees to control production costs.
  • Reviews production goals, product quality and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise Plant Superintendents and/or Managers in all aspects of concrete production and delivery.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these managers and other direct reports.  
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) from four-year college or university; and four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Knowledge of both the operation and maintenance of concrete batch plants, conveyor systems, mixer trucks, wheel loaders and other material handling equipment required.

 

Language Skills                                                

 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills                                               

 

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability

 

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills

 

  • To perform this job successfully, the incumbent should have working knowledge of Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 
  • The incumbent should be able to use the internet and e-mail effectively.
