The Region Services team redefines the way AWS designs, builds, and operates AWS regions to enable new AWS Cloud Infrastructure and Services offerings to customers across every industry and of every size, including start‑ups, enterprises, and public sector organizations.
We are looking for passionate Systems Engineers ready to solve complex technical challenges through innovative cloud computing solutions. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong development abilities to drive innovation and operational excellence when designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions across Route 53.
This position can be based at our Melbourne or Sydney office locations.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Drive continuous improvement from disparate data through tooling and automation.
- Drive root‑cause analyses, in collaboration with software development teams, as well as influencing local development to improve operational performance.
- Work in an environment where operational excellence is truly the first priority, and where the degree of automation is above standard.
- Use data, feedback, and subject‑matter expertise to measure and improve mechanisms.
- Automate processes whenever possible to enable scalability and reduce manual effort.
- Leverage technical acumen to drive the team’s strategic decisions and direction.
Security Clearance
Holds or is able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see applicants/eligibility-and-suitability).
A Day in the Life
It’s always Day 1 at Amazon. The Route 53 Systems Development Engineer drives the technical direction for the team, leads projects, and works to ensure less tenured engineers are set up for success. The most exciting part of the role is seeing the team build and deliver the latest Route 53 features and software releases for our customers.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience building highly scalable systems.
- Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP.
- Experience with automation or scripting languages such as Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, or Shell.
- Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS, networks and operating systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems, with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.
- Experience implementing process improvements.
- Extensive knowledge of DNS infrastructure and protocols.
- Hands‑on experience configuring well‑known DNS server software such as BIND.
