Job Requirements – Postpartum Nurse / RN Qualifications
Active RN license in Virginia or a compact state (required)
BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications (required; must obtain prior to direct patient care if not current)
Minimum 1 year of RN experience, postpartum, mother-baby, or related women's health experience preferred
Experience attending deliveries preferred (no circulating)
EPIC EHR experience strongly preferred (experience with electronic charting and documentation)
Travel nursing experience preferred (travel RN / travel nursing jobs)
Antepartum training preferred
Must reside outside a 50-mile radius (no local candidates)
ACLS certification preferred
Key Responsibilities – Postpartum Care & Newborn Care
Provide high-quality, family-centered postpartum and newborn care in a high-acuity mother-baby/couplet care setting
Perform comprehensive maternal and newborn assessments, including postpartum assessments, newborn care, and Toco/US fetal monitoring
Manage patients with substance use disorder or chronic pregnancy-related conditions with compassion and clinical expertise
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (OB, lactation, NICU, social work) to coordinate patient care, education, and discharge planning
Administer medications and interventions safely and efficiently following hospital protocols
Support breastfeeding and provide evidence-based education to new mothers and families (lactation support)
Float to other units within the Women’s Life Department as needed; NICU float duties limited to feeder/grower assignments
Utilize EPIC EHR for accurate documentation, handoffs, and care coordination
Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives
Demonstrate professionalism, cultural competence, and resilience in a fast-paced clinical environment
