Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Engineer will work independently with both internal and external customers and with technical support, as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or project leader. May lead or organize technical efforts or project teams. Interfaces between customers and Aerospace technical and management staff. May mentor less experienced MTS and serve as role model.

 KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Provide expertise in algorithm development supporting the integration and analysis of diverse data sources. 
  • Assess missile system performance in simulation followed by missile flight test environments
  • Evaluate algorithm performance enhancements through modeling, simulation, & analysis (MS&A).
  • Develop analysis software tools and conduct a range of analysis through the use of a framework of Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) missile system MS&A capabilities including in-house, custom and commercially available/government provided modeling tools.
  • Compare performance assessments of architecture variants and conduct trade studies on specific sensor capabilities, locations, and quantities.
  • Provide independent assessments and lead studies with teams of analysts derived from the most capable government/FFRDC/SETA/contractor sources.
  • Communicate with a broad range of customers, technologists, program managers, and senior leadership
  • Some travel is required.
  • Position is located in Huntsville, Alabama.

 

This position can be filled as a L2 or an L3.

Qualifications

Required for Project Engineer

  • BS degree in CS, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or similar applied quantitative discipline
  • Ability to write / maintain scripts, including Matlab or Python
  • Eight or more years of post-bachelor's degree related experience, which can include graduate studies

 Required for Senior Project Engineer

  • BS degree in CS, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or similar applied quantitative discipline
  • Ability to write / maintain scripts, including Matlab or Python
  • Twelve or more years of post-bachelor's degree related experience, which can include graduate studies

 Preferred

  • An advanced degree in CS, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or similar applied quantitative discipline
  • Broad range of computer skills/experience including development in a LINUX environment
  • Experience with software development in one or more languages, C, C++, JAVA
  • Expertise in Matlab development
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Algorithm development and/or evaluation
    • Modeling and simulation
    • Missile System Performance
    • IR or Radar sensor performance
    • Fusion of RF and EO/IR data
  • Knowledge of data science, including areas of machine learning, data services, optimization, modeling and analytics.
  • Experience with designing analytic methods and workflows and merging disparate data sources
  • Engineering experience or knowledge of sensor fusion, random variable processes, tracking, Kalman filtering, optimization, and control theory
  • Experience with data mining techniques, including feature generation and feature augmentation
  • Experience with at least one component of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS), BMDS Sensors, BMDS Ground Systems, or IR or Radar sensor performance evaluation.
  • Experience in reverse engineering complex systems
