EUC-VDI ENGINEER - IT TECHNOLOGY


Job Summary:

The End-User-Computing –Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (EUC-VDI) Administrator and Engineer roles, provide advanced and innovative patient centric and business solutions to enhance Hoag’s virtual, physical, remote, cloud and mobile desktop environments. Performs adequate testing and planning to deliver with the highest standards of quality and to secure high availability. Also, systems optimization, monitoring and proactive maintenance. Keeps systems in compliance with security, entitlement and performance requirements. Is committed to constant process improvement and to develop and maintain accurate and updated documentation and policies and procedures. Work in cross functional team efforts in complex issues resolution, project planning and implementations.
Applies experience with VMware View®, AppVolumes, UEM, Citrix Xen App, XenDesktop, and Windows virtual Technologies to support VDI implementations. Also to administrate large-scale (1000+ desktop sessions) VDI deployment using non-persistent desktops (floating pools) and virtual application delivery. Also implement and support the enterprise BYOD, MDM and Active Synch environments. Defines the Windows® desktop image standards for virtual and physical environments, also configurations for mobile and remote devices. In addition, optimize provisioning methods and leverage effectively and efficiently supporting tools and technologies, like SCCM, VROps, SCCM, AD, Symantec, etc., to support patching, anti-virus, profile management, user experience monitoring, performance improvements, packaging software, and encryption efforts. Also provides technical expertise to evaluate, install and maintain both, hardware and software (i.e., scanner / printer certifications, and Tap-to-Print solutions).
Participates in meetings outside of normal business hours including occasional evenings and/or weekends. Position is located in a support department which operates a call center 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide support and service that may require travel. Operations include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts. Employees may be required to pick up shifts outside of their standard assignment for coverage due to deployments, vacations, holidays, staff shortages, or other special circumstances as determined by leadership. Follows system-wide server, workstation, networking and integration standards, policies and procedures.
Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the Information Technology department’s mission. Understands the importance of IT systems to the delivery of care in a 24/7 environment and ensures application availability within set standards. Also demonstrates commitment to deadlines and excellence in customer service. In addition to core responsibilities, takes appropriate actions to assure the best possible outcomes for Hoag and its affiliates, and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:
EUC-VDI Engineer

• Provides engineer level support for the essential job functions described above. In addition, SME support to the VDI Infrastructure. Provides technical expertise and operational knowledge to evaluate, design, configure, install, maintain and support a large-scale VDI deployment.
• Develops the necessary methodologies and processes needed to scale VDI for growth, peak use capacities, remote access services, and support the roadmap for future use cases and expansion.
• Follows system-wide server, workstation, networking and integration standards, policies and procedures.
• Participates in activities to evaluate new technology and applications. Performs tasks associated with evaluation, design, installation, configuration, upgrades, testing, documentation, and expansion to support deploying new technologies and applications in a VDI environment.
• Develops the necessary methodologies and processes needed to scale for growth, peak use capacities, remote access services, and support the roadmap for future use cases and expansion.
• Follows system-wide server, workstation, networking and integration standards, policies and procedures.
• Technically mentors team members with processes and advanced technical solutions.
• Maintains professional knowledge of current trends and developments in the IT and healthcare field.
• Maintains accurate documentation for all images and VDI infrastructure, consistent with Hoag policies.
• Supports end users for effective use of VDI desktop technology. Follows Incident Management process. Efficiently utilizes available resources. Performs all Technical Support Specialist functions as necessary.
• Perform daily tasks to review generated output and analyze trends from productivity and performance tools and VDI management tools to proactively manage the environment.
• Creates, modifies and documents complex desktop image design defaults, scripted processes and image maintenance procedures. Maintains an inventory of installed software and hardware.
• Contributes to the development of new enterprise standards and/or the modification of existing standards. Provides specifications for hardware such as additional disk drives, adapters, memory cards, printers, print servers and peripherals.
• Position may require travel between various Hoag locations and its affiliates.
• Builds new and/or enhances/modifies VDI images to support deployment of new or upgraded applications in a virtualized desktop environment. Demonstrates advanced technical knowledge.
• Supports VDI image upgrades related to monthly EMR changes, as appropriate.
• Monitors problem management system work queues; Responds to and resolves customer reported incidents within specified SLAs; Maintains accurate work records
• Adjusts daily assignment scheduling to allow time to work on and complete projects when needed.
• Provide support for printing solutions.
• Gives technical assistance to customers and management as needed.

 

Required:

EUC-VDI Administrator
• High School diploma or equivalent work experience and 3+ years of related experience
 

EUC-VDI Administrator Senior
In addition to the above, the EUC-VDI Administrator Senior will have:
• 5+ years of related experience

 

EUC-VDI Engineer
In addition to the above, the EUC-VDI Engineer will have:
• 7+ years of related experience

 

Preferred:

EUC-VDI Administrator / EUC-VDI Administrator Senior
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
• VCP 6, MCSA, MCP, Network+, A+ Certifications, Cloud/Mobility Certifications
• Scripting experience with Batch Files, Windows PowerShell, VBScript,

 

EUC-VDI Engineer
In addition to the above, the EUC-VDI Engineer will have:
• VCPDT, MCSE Certifications

 

Skills or other Qualifications:

Required:

EUC-VDI Administrator
• Experience providing Level II and III desktop engineering support in the Windows, and mobility environment, also VDI Administrator Level. Preferably in healthcare.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, preferably in a technical support role.
 

EUC-VDI Administrator Senior
In addition to the above, the EUC-VDI Administrator Senior will have:
• Senior VDI Administrator level support experience.
• Advanced experience with VMware View® Technology
• Advanced experience with desktop hardware, software and technologies including MS Windows 7+, IE10.x+, GPOs, IEM/ADMX
 

EUC-VDI Engineer
In addition to the above, the EUC-VDI Engineer will have:
• VDI Engineer level support experience.
• Strong experience with VMware View® Technology and VSphere 5.5+
• Prior experience in implementing methods and processes required to efficiently administer and manage the VDI environment.
• Able to implement and administrate a large-scale (500-1000+ desktop sessions) VDI deployment using non-persistent (floating pools) of desktops in a clinical environment.
• Experience with User Profile management tool. Client-side scripting skills (VB, PowerShell, C+/#, Batch etc.)
• Advanced infrastructure support experience with Desktop, Tap-to-Print, Mobility and VDI server hardware and software: UCS, Nutanix, HP blades, Storage
