    About the Position:
    The Great Lakes and Ohio River Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is actively soliciting applications from U.S. Citizens who are seeking permanent, full-time, Seasonal positions. Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work of less than 12 months each year. Seasonal employees are permanent employees who are placed in non-duty/non-pay status and recalled to duty in accordance with pre-established conditions of employment.

    The initial cut-off for referral consideration is 09 February 2018; applications received by this date will have the first opportunity for review; afterward, referrals will be pulled as vacancies occur.     Responsibilities

    As a Maintenance Worker Helper, you will perform a variety of structural/mechanical maintenance duties on a navigational locks and dam generally consisting of lock chamber miter gates, emptying and filling valves, etc. You may be required to perform similar work at a lake and flood control reservoir project. You will also perform decking operations when assisting commercial tows through locks during multiple lockages, and when transporting the U.S. Repair Fleet from project to project.

    Working Conditions: Work is performed in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops. You will be subjected to dangers such as, but not limited to, falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones, or infections. May work in inclement weather to perform duties including, but not limited to, surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Must be capable of working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors, and sandblast particles, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable.

    Physical Demands: Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways, and working on steep and uneven ground. Must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs unassisted, or up to 100 lbs with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to left 40 lbs while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of kerosene, lifting and carrying a 50 lbs bag of wildlife seed, lifting and carrying a five gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs with the assistance of one other person include but are not limited to moving furniture and lift 80 lbs bags of cement.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Worker Helper~ without more than normal supervision. At a minimum, your level of experience must show that you have performed various simple maintenance or repair tasks utilizing mechanical or electrical equipment; and operated simple electrical or mechanical equipment such as: lawn mowers, hedge clippers, electric drills, power wrenches, and hydraulic lifts. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
