Unit MedSurg Oncology (3120101)
# of beds 28 beds
Ratios 1:4-5
Required certifications BLS required, Chemo certification through ONS provider card preferred.
Common diagnoses/Types of patients Oncology and general med surg combination. Hospice inpatient program also housed here. Full telemetry, reading and interpereting is a must
Experience or 'Must have' skills Oncology experience is a must. will need to pass a dysrthymia exam during onboarding.
Are RNs required to titrate drips? Heparin, Cardizem, may see other cardiac drips.
Common titratable &/or set rate drips Heparin, Cardizem
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Charge nurse on each shift. Typically do not take patients.
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios CNA's are 8 hour shifts. Unit is set up like a 4 leaf clover, each pod has a CNA. At night 2 CNA's for 28 beds.
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) CPAP or BiPap. RT will manage. Nurses will do nebs, breathing treatments and suctioning trachs.
Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? central monitoring unit
Shifts & Scheduling 07-1930, and 1900-0730 rotation through pods. 6 weeks at a time
Weekend Requirement Every other weekend, Nights: Friday, Saturday, Days: Saturday, Sunday
Holiday Requirement Rotate with perm staff.
Is there a call or standby requirement? No
Floating Requirements Within Med Surg/Tele service line. Floats in rotation with perm staff. Union dictactes floating requirement.
Scrub Color/Dress Code Any professionall looking scrubs. No t-shirts. close toes shoes.
Unit/Department specific orientation 1st shift would be Epic class, (Inpatient can test out of epic.) 1-2 days with a preceptor. 2 days maximum.

Additional Questions Do they have central line and port experience. Accessing, changing sterile dressings etc. What does teamwork look like to you?
