CET Manufacturing IT Developer

The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Business software application development for the manufacturing organization.
  • Develops IT solutions by creating new and modifying existing software applications for manufacturing
  • Analyzes system requirements and business processes to effectively design solutions to meet manufacturing and business needs
  • Create prototypes, code, test, debug, document, and implement systems
  • Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Acts as liaison for answering user questions and handling malfunctions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of standard programming languages and development tools.
  • Contributes to training effort for users and operations personnel and aids in system implementation.
  • Provides occasional on-call work and support, including 24-hour coverage as assigned.

Projects involved with:

• Migration of existing manufacturing systems to new technology, which may include purchased or locally-developed software, interfaces and tools; resulting in the elimination of legacy technologies.

• Leverage global Corning IT technologies, methodologies, and applications to maximize the value of IT investments and responsiveness. Examples include global PeopleSoft Supply Chain, division-wide applications for lab, inventory, process information, and data warehouse.

Role within group:  

  • Individual contributor reporting to the CET Manufacturing Service Line organization
  • Occasional 24x7 coverage as assigned
  • Day-to-day support of shop-floor database systems
  • Liaison to many manufacturing and business support groups, including Operations, Engineering, and Quality
  • Provide assistance, mentoring, and documentation to other IT Team members in areas of expertise and experience.
  • Engage other IT developers and experts in the advancement of standards, leverage of technologies and resources, and sharing knowledge & experiences.

Travel Requirements: Occasional, majority of travel within the Corning Valley Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: M-F 8-5 24x7 coverage as assigned Job Title: CET IT Analyst Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of CET substrate and filter manufacturing.
  • Detailed understanding of MES database architecture.
  • Strong database management skills
  • Completed significant database development projects, including requirements analysis, business and technical design, prototyping, software development, testing, documentation; project planning, milestone tracking for data-based software solutions.
  • Proven ability to adapt to rapidly-changing IT requirements and customer priorities.
  • Ability to support a fast-paced, lean manufacturing environment in a 24x7 setting. Occasional off-hours support is required, as well as providing support and expertise to other off-hours team members when necessary.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.

Desired Skills:

  • Programming experience utilizing: SQL Server technologies, Visual Studio, and XML
  • Effective troubleshooting skills; systematic approach to problem solving; leverage internal and external resources for rapid problem resolution.
  • Strong SQL Server, Oracle, data warehouse, and reporting development and administration skills.
  • Software Development/Support; Database / Data Warehouse Administration & Support;

Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. The position requires daily interaction with internal customers, development team members, and the global Corning IT team. The ability to document and convey requirements, standards and status is critical.
  • Demonstrate excellent organization and time-management skills required to achieve results.
  • Demonstrate initiative, technical curiosity, and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to adapt to and manage multiple, changing priorities simultaneously; strong customer focus. Adapt to static and changing technology needs, as driven by the business and customer requirements.
  • Diligent attention to detail, to deliver first-day quality results, on time. Strong continuous improvement and performance excellence focus.
