Summary of Job:

 

Responsible for set-up and operation of grinding equipment in the manufacture of product to specific tolerance requirements.  Checks work product status at various intervals during production cycle.  Identifies non-conforming parts and maintains appropriate quality records.

               

II.            Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Actively participate in department safety program activities including two-minute warning prior to initiating work assignments; practice safe housekeeping; follow established work procedures; complete annual safety objectives; and, report all incidents in a timely manner.
  2. Selects appropriate machine tools, tooling, and grinding wheels for the product that is to be produced.
  3. Performs setups and makes adjustments as required by print specifications or process instructions for manufacture of standard parts and any special (CNS) parts on manual and/or CNC equipment with 3-axis capabilities or more.
  4. Checks dimensional accuracy of machined components using various types of manual and electronic measuring equipment.
  5. Develop / enhance programs for standard product when necessary.
  6. Performs training on operation and setup of relevant equipment as required.
  7. Completes all paperwork per ISO-9001:2008 standards.
  8. Works various shifts as required, and overtime when requested.  Runs multiple machine cells when required.
  9. Follows proper procedures to request materials and supplies.

Actively participates in various teams as required.

IV.         Skills/Knowledge Required:

 

  Following appropriate training , must be able to manufacture and inspect components to tolerances of +/- .0002

  Must be able to read and interpret detailed engineered drawings

  Must be able to follow detailed written and/or verbal instructions

  Must be able to apply new job-related information in an efficient manner

     Equipment Used:

 

  1. Grinders (CNC and/or Manual):  Blohms, Wendt top and bottom grinder, Blanchards, Besly, Waidas, Harigs, Wit-O-Matics, T-Land machines
  2. Inspection equipment (Height Stand, Micrometer, Profileometer, Comparators, etc.)
  3. Various hand tools and bench equipment

 

 VII.     Education Guidelines:

 

  1. Trade School Diploma in an appropriate discipline and/or Certificate of Apprenticeship and/or trade experience preferred.
  2. High School Diploma or GED required.

 

VIII.       Experience Guidelines:

 

  1. One to three years experience working in a machine shop, doing precision work using manual or CNC grinding machines. 

 

IX          Physical Requirements:

 

  1. Must be able to work either standing or sitting for long periods of time
  2. Must be able to lift 5 to 20 lbs. routinely.  Occasionally lifting up to 55 lbs. 
  3.  Must be able to visually inspect parts to very close tolerances.

     

Job Conditions and Hazards:

 

  1. Some mist / dust generated from machine operation
  2. Finger cuts from sharp tooling and/or tools
  3. Loose clothing, long hair, and/or jewelry could tangle in machine
  4. Potential for parts to fly from the machine or fixture
  5. Pinched and/or smashed fingers from machine operations
