Assistant Professor, Educator – School Counseling Program Track


The School of Human Services at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for appointment to a 9-month Assistant Professor, Educator (non-tenure track) position in Counseling Program with a specialization in School Counseling. The selected candidate is expected to teach face-to-face and online graduate courses; supervise field experiences; advise graduate students; collaborate with area schools/agencies; and provide Program, School, College, and University and professional service.


Based on the Carnegie Foundation Classification System, The University of Cincinnati is a Doctoral Granting Research University with Very High Research Activity (R1). It is part of Ohio's higher education system with over 44,000 students in attendance (over 11,000 graduate students). The University has been ranked as one of the top ten places for graduate research and post-grad living. The Counseling Program is located within the School of Human Services in the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services. The School also includes undergraduate and graduate programs in School Psychology, Health Promotion and Education, and Sport Administration. The School is a leader in online and face-to-face course delivery and certificate offerings, with active collaborative activities across programs. The Counseling Program offers Ed.D. (Counselor Education), M.A. (Mental Health Counseling), M.Ed. (School Counseling), and B.S. (Substance Abuse Counseling) degrees. All of the graduate counseling degree programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP). School counseling specialty curriculum integrates the ASCA model with a focus on evidence-based practice. Currently, eight full-time faculty members are assigned to the Counseling Program.

Job Description: On a full-time basis, Faculty Members’ principal academic functions include teaching face-to-face and online graduate courses; supervising field experiences; advising graduate students; collaborating with area schools/agencies; and providing Program, School, College, and University and professional service.


Minimum Qualifications: (1) An earned doctorate in counselor education (or anticipated completion by August, 2019); (2) demonstrated potential to maintain a strong teaching record through the creation of student-centered learning environments incorporating best practices aligned with accreditation and licensure requirements; (3) a potential for teaching a variety of graduate courses in counseling and school counseling , both on-campus and online; (4) a commitment to evidence-based school counseling practices and interdisciplinary collaborations; and (5) experience as a school counselor and/or experience teaching school counseling courses utilizing the ASCA model. 


Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have professional experience implementing evidence-based practice in school counseling, a counselor education degree from a CACREP accredited program, expert knowledge of culturally diverse populations, eligibility for Ohio Licensure as a school counselor, and the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with university colleagues and community partners.
