    Responsibilities

    The primary purpose of this position is: This is a formal Air Force intern position established under the Premier Civilian Intern (PCIP) program and; as such, it is centrally funded by HQ AFPC/DP2ICR and administered by the Special Investigations Civilian Career Program (SICCP). This program is intended to develop multi-disciplined individuals who can deal effectively with change and complexity within the Air Force environment as it relates to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). The purpose of this position is to serve as an entry level trainee with AFOSI, to receive formal and on-the-job training in criminal investigations, and to complete developmental assignments and training outlined in the SICCP PAQ Training Plan.

    Works in strict adherence to specific and detailed guidelines that cover all aspects of assignments, consulting with the supervisor or higher-graded specialist as needed.

    Performs selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of criminal investigations.

    Studies Air Force requirements for the projects and researches and studies the current body of precedents and technical knowledge.

    Drafts or prepares a variety of documents to include responses to routine inquiries, reports, letters, and other related documents.

    Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be measured against the following:
    1. Knowledge of basic principles of criminal investigations or related field.

    2. Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing.

    3. Ability to learn basic techniques in criminal investigations.

    4. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.

    5. Ability to plan and organize work, and consult effectively with co-workers.

    Qualifications
    Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    The Premier Civilian Intern (PCIP) program

    To qualify for an Internship as a GS-05, students must have completed four full semesters, or have a bachelor's degree (120 or more semester hours or 180 or more quarter hours completed). Applicants at the GS-05 level must still be enrolled in an academic program to receive consideration.

    One Academic year of undergraduate education (post-high school study):
    A minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours at an accredited college or university; or
    A minimum of 36 weeks at an accredited business, technical, vocational, or qualifying educational institution for at least 20 classroom hours per week.

    You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited public or other non-profit college or university:

  • Enrolled in an approved degree program
  • Enrollment must be in a full-time program
  • Have a good academic standing (no less than 2.95 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale)
  • Meet the qualification standards of the position
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • A U.S. citizen or a national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
  • Must sign a Participant Agreement

    Medical, Health and Fitness Requirements:
    - Must be physically fit in order to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties
    - May be required to take a series of vaccinations and immunizations
    - Moderate to arduous physical exertion involving standing, walking, running
    - The use of firearms
    - Exposure to inclement weather or other environmental hazards
    - Manual dexterity
    - Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily

    20/20 or better with or without correction in the better eye or 20/30 or better with
    or without correction in the worse eye; near visual acuity: 20/30 or better, binocular conditions with our without correction @ 40 cm (16 inches); uncorrected visual acuity: 20/200 or better, binocular conditions without correction; visual field: full visual field in each eye; color vision: possess adequate color vision to correctly identify basic colors as demonstrated by passing the Farnsworth D-15 Test with less than two major errors; binocular depth perception: stereo acuity of 70 seconds of arc or better; night vision: normal dark adaptation and night vision
    - Adequate hearing is required in order to perform duties safely and satisfactorily; hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels
    - Must possess emotional and mental stability
    - Any physical or mental condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to themselves or others is disqualifying-
    - Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically able to perform duties without being a hazard to themselves or others

    Upon graduation and program requirement completion, a Premier College Intern may be converted to a career, career-conditional appointment into the Air Force Palace Acquire/Copper Cap or similar developmental training program without further competition.

    Locality Pay: This position is authorized locality pay based on the location of permanent assignment.
