Human Resources Advisor

Closing Date:  October 31, 2018

Reporting to the Superintendent, Employee & Labour Relations the Human Resources Advisor is responsible for establishing programs and policies that promote a positive Employee Relations environment. The Human Resources Advisor will also provide support to front line management.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support and assist operational departments as an integral part of the HR Team in the rollout and administration of all HR programs.
  • Assist in the administration of collective agreements and the implementation of Company policies to ensure proper interpretation at Trail Operations.
  • Maintain and update the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
  • Investigate employee relations issues including employee matters and performance concerns while maintaining confidentiality, consistency and sensitivity.
  • Coach, counsel, and guide managers before the execution of employee disciplinary actions.
  • Key member of the Company in collective bargaining providing support to senior management in material preparation, contract language and proposals.
  • Responsible for leading hourly recruitment and accountable for effective deployment of unionized employees to satisfy internal transfers.
  • Work closely with the claims and disability management team.
  • Coordinates with payroll staff personnel changes that impact employee benefit coverage including enrollments, dependent additions/deletions, and optional insurance changes.
  • Generates regular and ad hoc reports on specific HR metrics.
  • Provide support and assistance to HR Manager on Business Unit projects
  • Other responsibilities as they arise

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Commerce or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively senior level human resource experience.
  • CPHR designation considered an asset.
  • Several years of experience in compensation process, policies and structure
  • Several years of experience with various benefits plans
  • Experience dealing with grievances, arbitrations and mediations
  • Experience in bargaining a collective agreement.
  • Possess strong problem solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Must have considerable computer and software application proficiency
  • Thorough knowledge of human resource practices, applicable statutes and regulations,.
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate with very high levels of integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize workload in a fast paced environment.
