Summary

The HIM Billing/Coding Coordinator supports the coding analysis function to insure timely chart deficiency completion and timely billing of patient accounts. Utilizes various software and mainframe applications to research and resolve patient account issues and has knowledge of patient registration practices, multiple HIM processes and documentation requirements to expedite completion of records for billing. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Medical terminology

Must have at least four (4) years of HIM experience utilizing Windows-based applications.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of JCAHO/CMS/HIPAA standards and documentation requirements.
  • Basic understanding of principals of ICD-9-CM codes and DRG assignment.
  • Ability to travel to different offsite facilities as needed.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Researches reports of unbilled accounts to expedite coding and billing in order to maintain HIM goal for pending Days in Medical Records.
  • Obtains charts and required documentation needed to facilitate coding.
  • Exhibits full comprehension of multiple computer applications and serves as a resource for others.
  • Provides information and responds to requests/questions from Patient Financial Services, Physician/Offices and others.
  • Provides back up as needed to ensure timely processing of records.
  • Maintains care, control and confidentiality of hospital medical records and retrieves medical records for authorized personnel as needed.

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
