Technical Product Manager - Advisory Platform

Northwestern Mutual is looking for a Product Manager to join the NM Connect team to drive platform engagement with our financial representatives.  The tools we’re building help FRs make more informed client decisions as we revolutionize the planning experience. We are on mission to re-imagine financial planning and it all starts with the tools that our planners use everyday to deliver advice that moves clients to action. 

The role requires ownership of solving complex problems, ability to get things done, and strong product, relationship and stakeholder management skills. 


What you’ll do: 

  • Work cross functionally with engineers, designers, and stakeholders to get requirements ready for upcoming sprints and ship software  

  • Build use cases and user stories around a product and communicate them effectively 

  • Know your users, drive research to make our features align with problems 

  • Analyze competitors, evaluate vendors, and come to the table to solve problems. 

  • Define roadmap for engagement tools, approach in MVP mentality 

  • Inform product decisions with quantitative data and experimentation. 

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and strategic partnerships with external and internal key stakeholders/customers across groups and/or business units to maximize effectiveness and influence. 

  • Drive user driven design, identify problems, formulate hypotheses, test and learn 


What you have: 

  • Product Management Experience - driven product development for 3 + years with cross functional teams, you know how to write effective product specs and drive projects to completion. 

  • Product Intuition - strong instincts about what makes great product, simple is better 

  • Technical Chops - don’t need to code, but should be able to gauge what technologies work best for the job, what’s easy or difficult to implement, degree in Computer Science or a related field is plus, Financial Services experience another plus 

  • Experience with Engagement Capabilities and Implementations (e.g. Feedback, Chat, First Time User, Targeted Messaging, Onboarding) 

  • Data-Driven - You know how to leverage data to make good decisions when confronted by ambiguity. You may not have all the answers upfront but you know how to find them 

  • Highly Effective Communication Skills - presenting to large groups, convincing people to run towards goals, and managing multiple stakeholders.
