Med/Surg RN Job Details

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
  
• BLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
  
• ACLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
  
• Minimum 2 years of bedside clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing
  
• ICU/Critical Care nursing experience highly desired
  

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for Med/Surg patients
  
• Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to identify teaching needs and goals
  
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses using electronic health records
  
• Participate in patient rehabilitation programs and provide direct clinical support utilizing the nursing process
  
• Initiate discharge planning and patient education from admission
  
• Communicate changes in patient status to healthcare providers to ensure continuity and safety
  
• Supervise and provide direction to ancillary nursing staff and support personnel
  
• Maintain personal and environmental safety in accordance with hospital and healthcare policies
  
• Contribute positively to team building, unit efficiency, and quality patient outcomes
  
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities as requested after orientation
  
• Engage in professional development, continuing education, and best practices in nursing
