Requisition ID: 48866

The Factory Automation & Data Systems Group at Skyworks in Woburn, Massachusetts is responsible for developing and supporting a wide variety of databases, data analysis/reporting tools, automation systems and custom applications to effectively and efficiently deliver world-class quality products on time and support continuous improvement efforts across the organization.  As this group is embedded within the Woburn semiconductor wafer manufacturing organization, considerable subject matter expertise in semiconductor manufacturing is a key characteristic of the group and its individual members.

Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the Skyworks Woburn Factory Automation & Data Systems Group, collaborate with teams in Operations, Engineering, Facilities, Equipment and Quality to define the data systems required to support the Woburn semiconductor wafer fabrication organization.  Then, as a group, develop, deploy and support the defined systems.  Such systems include, but are not limited to, FDC (Fault Detection & Classification) systems, work cell station controllers, a data archive (i.e. a “data lake”), a cross-functional relational data mine, functional area databases, web-based data analysis and reporting tools, and closed-loop detect/notify/disposition systems.
  • As a primary responsibility, architect, develop and administer database schemas capable of supporting the data system and factory automation needs of the Woburn organization with high reliability and high performance, anticipating its growth over the next 5 years.  This includes developing, populating and managing a data archive and the required databases.
  • As a secondary responsibility, cross-train with peers on selected aspects of the group’s data systems and factory automation efforts to add “bench depth” to the group overall.  This includes sharing your skills and knowledge with your teammates as well as learning theirs from them.
  • Collaborate with peers to establish standards for programming languages, programming conventions, methods of information exchange, a revision tracking system, version control procedures and software testing/release protocols.  Additionally, as a team, document the overall system, including the code base, the data archive and the database schemas.
  • Prevent database “crash events” through robust design.  Implement monitoring systems and methodologies capable of quickly detecting and correcting abnormal database conditions and poor performance before they impact users or other systems.  Develop and validate rapid recovery strategies to minimize the effects of such crash events on “mission critical” systems.
  • Track metrics such as database uptime, CPU/RAM/disk loading, application utilization, database response latency and help requests opened/closed, and drive their continuous improvement.
  • Support legacy Skyworks data tools/systems to ensure business continuity.  In the interest of continuous improvement, where appropriate, consolidate and simplify such tools/systems.
  • Specify the requirements of the computer hardware, OS’s, RDBMS’s and ancillary software to ensure the desired level of reliability and performance from the overall system.
  • Collaborate with peer teams at other facilities to share and apply best practices.

Qualifications:

  • BS in CE, CS, EE or similar discipline, plus at least 10 years of experience developing databases and data analysis/reporting tools, ideally in a volume semiconductor fabrication environment.
  • Expert level knowledge and practical experience in database design and administration, preferably using open source platforms, specifically Linux and MySQL or some derivative.  Additionally, knowledge/experience with MS SQL Server/MS Windows Server platforms is a plus.
  • Expert level skills developing web-based or stand-alone applications that support manual data entry, APIs, SQL database queries, statistical analyses, and tabular/graphical data visualizations.
  • Expert level programming skills with at least two of the following:  C#, Java, Perl and Python.
  • Experience with storage and high-speed retrieval/processing of well structured “big data”.
  • Additionally, candidates with any of the following are especially desirable:
    • Working knowledge of probability, statistics, multi-variate regression and common statistical parameters such as mean, median, quartiles, standard deviation, Cp and Cpk.
    • Experience with high-speed methods of statistical data aggregation for large data sets.
    • Familiarity with statistically/geographically based screening methods like DPAT/GDBN.
    • Experience in any aspect of factory automation such as working with SECS/GEM interfaces, Fault Detection & Classification systems, direct data acquisition from analog/digital I/O, or developing/deploying/supporting work cell station controllers.
  • Excellent verbal and written “360” communication skills.
  • Initiative to address and appropriately escalate problems to achieve rapid resolution.
  • Detail oriented with strong fundamentals in disciplined programming methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively with groups such as Engineering, Operations, Facilities, Equipment and Quality in a dynamic, collaborative, data directed and results oriented environment.
  • Ability to travel within the US and internationally.
