Hatch is currently seeking a recent graduate for a Mechanical Engineer-In-Training position in our Amherst, NY Office.  If you have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and understand innovation, we want to hear from you.
Working closely with our senior engineers and designers in our water power business, your primary role will be to act as a technical resource on challenging projects.  You will apply analytical, conceptual, research, and planning skills to design systems for installation, including penstocks, hydraulic gates, mechanical operating systems (balance of plant), and turbine generators.
The position will allow the candidate to directly apply and develop his or her knowledge in mechanical design, stress analysis and hydraulic system design. The candidate will be exposed to modern design tools, including 3D solid modeling and complex calculation software. As time progresses, project duties and responsibilities will increase, facilitating registration of the candidate as a professional engineer.
There will be opportunities for travel and work assignments at a variey of USA site locations. Newly hired EITs will be assigned to work closely with experienced engineers who will provide guidance and mentoring.
Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Providing Mechanical Engineering design support to multidiscipline teams on maintenance, expansion and new construction projects
  • Participating in site evaluations and data collection
  • Undertaking basic design/specification and detailed design of mechanical systems and materials
  • Technical selection, calculations, sizing and evaluation of equipment
  • Preparing RFQs, including specifications, scopes of work and data sheets
  • Evaluate Vendor quotations for technical adequacy, budgetary constraints and client requirements
  • Vendor document review and approval

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Excellent analytical, writing and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to interact successfully with all levels of staff, clients and vendors
  • Available to travel, as needed, to help support a global business

Qualifications:
Candidates who have excelled in their studies at the undergraduate and graduate level in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering are sought. In addition to demonstrating strong academic performance, candidates require good communication skills, an aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams, and a commitment to achieving engineering excellence.
