Lead Civil Inspector / Lead Structural Inspector - Charleston Job

Plans and coordinates all field inspection activities and reviews the work of inspectors to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications by performing the following duties.  Performs quality control inspection activities.


General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Prepares summary reports.
  2. Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve methods.
  3. Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.
  4. Reviews work progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications.
  5. Examines workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approves installation.
  6. Assist resident engineers in completion of construction work in accordance with design.
  7. Reviews daily log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports.
  8. Interprets blueprints and specifications for Contractor and discusses deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
  9. Computes monthly estimates of work completed and approves payment for contractors.
  10. Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from blueprints and reports such changes for incorporation on master blueprints.
  11. Capable of handling large projects of moderate complexity.
  12. Develop inspection plans and assign duties to staff.
  13. Ability to anticipate and curtail potential claims and disputes


Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct and review the work of inspectors.

Education/Experience – BS or BA in Construction Management or Project Management preferred.  Generally requires 12 or more years of inspection experience with some technical training or equivalent.


Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word software and Internet software.
