POSITION SUMMARY:

The Payroll Accounting -- Senior Accountant position is responsible for performing the accounting for the payroll and benefits activities within the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring that all Journal entry activity is accurately recorded to the general ledger and reconciled monthly. This role also functions as the liaison for payroll accounting related questions with our various business partners throughout the organization. Therefore, this role requires a person who has the upmost discretion for handling sensitive and confidential information and can communicate effectively both via written and verbal medium with internal customers at all levels of the business.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

* Coordinate the payroll accounting process for all corporate retail store, distribution center and customer care center US and Global payroll transactions, in a timely manner and consistent with established accounting service levels.
* Create monthly Journal entries that are assigned, to properly reflect each month's payroll transactions.
* Reconcile payroll accounting data to ensure completeness and accuracy, in support of corporate financial reporting. Reconcile detailed data for corporate general ledger reporting purposes.
* Review payments to ensure proper support documentation and approval. Maintain adequate support documentation consistent with record retention requirements.
* In cooperation with corporate directives, provide requested information, typically for general ledger accruals or other transactions, in a timely manner.
* Mitigate accounting issues and recommend corrective action to ensure compliance with GAAP and WSI company policy.
* Assist in the review of the payroll accounting function by proposing enhancement/improvement of accounting procedures. Propose viable solutions to address payroll accounting problems/issues.
* Effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with all payroll partners and 3rd party payroll providers (i.e., Pro Business and ADP resources).
* Assist with special projects in support of various corporate accounting initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:

* B.A./B.S. degree with a minimum of a minor in Accounting or Finance and a minimum of three (3) years of accounting industry experience. Previous payroll experience is PREFERRED.
* The ability to interact with confidential, sensitive material in a discrete manner, while maintaining absolute discretion is REQUIRED.
* Strong PC skills (Excel/Word) is REQUIRED. Experience with ADP (i.e. ProBusiness), Report Writer software (i.e. Crystal reports/ R&R reporting) and Time Tracking software (i.e. KRONOS, TimeTracker) is PREFERRED. A working knowledge of database functions is HIGHLY DESIRED. Experience with Lawson HR a plus.
* The ability to analyze large amounts of data (typically via Excel spreadsheet) along with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and yet consistently meet deadlines is HIGHLY PREFERRED. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are CRITICALLY IMPORTANT.
