Job Purpose and Summary

We help people navigate the health care system, improve access, lower costs and become a trusted partner. In our retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.

As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence. You are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, while providing caring service that exceeds expectations. You will apply SOPs, best practices and effective communication throughout your shifts.

New Technicians complete a rigorous training program and meet all registration, licensing, and certification requirements. Until certification is complete duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Living our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation.
  • Following pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off).
  • Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, offering immunizations and other services, and solving or escalating patient problems.
  • Completing basic inventory activities such as accurate medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks and waiting‑bin inventories.
  • Engaging in a high‑performing team, seeking growth and expanding clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntary travel to other stores.
  • Complying with all relevant federal, state, and local laws and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
  • Delivering additional patient health care services such as immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and optionally staffing off‑site clinics when authorized.

When permissible, the Technician may support immunizations, which includes:

  • Completing additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
  • Educating patients about vaccine importance and referring questions to the on‑duty Pharmacist.
  • Monitoring and responding to adverse reactions, reporting per public health requirements.
  • Collecting, reviewing, and documenting patient information for each vaccination.
  • Monitoring and managing vaccine supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Must comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements concerning age, education, and licensure/certification.
  • If the state board does not set a minimum age, you must be at least 16 years old.
  • If no minimum educational requirement is set, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in a high school or equivalency program.
  • State‑level licensure and national certification vary by state.

Essential Functions

  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training in the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
  • Customer service and team orientation: help people friendly, respond to patient reactions.
  • Communication skills: verbal and written, active listening, clear instructions.
  • Mathematical reasoning: compute dosage, quantity and bottle counts.
  • Problem resolution: identify challenging interactions and select appropriate resolution.
  • Physical demands: mobile, lift up to 20 lbs (occasionally), reach overhead, use fingers, accurate machine operation, stooped posture, close visual acuity, etc.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
