Job Overview
40 hours weekly. Alternating weekends and holidays. Phlebotomist responsible for patient intake, registration, specimen labeling, and patient escort to phlebotomy services. Performs phlebotomy on all patient populations. Handles specimen receiving, sorting, data entry, record retrieval, filing, typing envelopes, and telephone inquiries. Reports to Phlebotomy Supervisor. Part of 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of phlebotomy training preferred.
- Six (6) months direct phlebotomy experience or 80‑hour clinical rotation preferred.
- Interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills required.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, make independent decisions, maintain organized conditions during stressful situations required.
- Competent in phlebotomy skills/competency checklist by end of introductory period or position will be forfeited.
- Clerical experience including medical terminology required, preferably in laboratory setting.
- Reliable transportation for assignments outside hospital required.
