Hourly Research Technician – School of Medicine, Neurosurgery

Responsibilities

  • Perform quantitative analyses of brain scans, requiring proficiency in neuroanatomy.
  • Assist with research studies, experiments, and assays, including collection of data and behavioral/cognitive testing.
  • Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Perform data entry and maintain data files on research.
  • Present timely research data at lab meetings.
  • Contribute research data to publications, grant submissions, and conference presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Hiring Standards

  • Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four years.
  • Expertise in neuroanatomy and quantitative analyses of brain scans (magnetic resonance imaging).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, and to communicate effectively with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in, and foster an environment of, respect, professionalism, and civility with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in biology, animal science, chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or related disciplines.

Salary and Work Details

  • Salary Range: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour.
  • FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt.
  • Restricted Position: Yes.
  • Hours per Week: Not to exceed 29.
  • ORP Eligible: No.
  • Flexible Work Arrangement: No.

This position is open until filled. It is a restricted position with no set end date. Continued employment depends on project need, funding availability, and performance.
