Overview

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, an ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. The Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive care for traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with neurology available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The hospital also has multiple outpatient sites, including a wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner - Non-Invasive Cardiology - Full Time, Days.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and reassessment of patients; introduce and identify self as a nurse practitioner.
  • Assist the physician with patient management focusing on quality care and timely discharge.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, physicians, case managers, nurses, and other hospital staff regarding information affecting discharge or the hospital course.
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessment, history, and physical examinations.
  • Assess/reassess patient condition and care plan; order and interpret tests/results (labs, radiology, EKG) as needed.
  • Order medications and treatments; document care in the chart per hospital policies and CDI guidelines.
  • Formulate diagnoses; develop and implement patient care plans; discuss plans with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other staff; follow LIHN guidelines if applicable.
  • Obtain consents for blood/blood product transfusion, CT/MRI contrast administration, and procedures performed by the NP.
  • Initiate consults with physicians and other hospital staff, including hospice and palliative care.
  • Initiate and participate in end-of-life care discussions (DNR/DNI, MOLST documentation).
  • Manage medical/surgical patient care including emergencies requiring BLS/ACLS/PALS (adult or family NP).
  • Perform trauma assessments/reassessments (ATLS) for Trauma Team; peri- and intraoperative assessments as needed.
  • Rounds with physicians and hospital staff; manage restraints as required; document all pertinent information per policies and CDI.
  • Ensure accurate and legible chart entries with dates, times, and signature; use name stamp as appropriate; document patient/family education and test results or disposition.
  • Complete discharge documentation including discharge instructions, orders, prescriptions, and transfer/discharge summaries.

Technical Procedures

  • Explain procedures to patient/family; use sterile technique as needed.
  • Perform procedures such as IV insertion, Foley catheter insertion, nasogastric/orogastric tube insertion, central venous line removal, suturing and wound care, and splinting.
  • Assist in surgery and with cardiac catheterizations; perform CT/MRI injections and other radiological injections as needed.
  • Perform invasive procedures such as PICC insertion, central venous line insertion, and chest tube insertion; perform chest tube and drain removals as applicable.
  • Assist radiologist with procedures (biopsies, drainage, special procedures) and perform radiological procedures such as paracentesis and thoracentesis.

  • Attends departmental, Medical Staff, and Trauma Team meetings (minimum 50%); participates in performance assessment and improvement studies.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an NP educational program approved by the State of New York. Current NP certification from either the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Current New York State license as registered nurse and nurse practitioner. Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.

Required Licenses

Registered Nurse License-NYS, Nurse Practitioner-NYS, Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS) through the American Heart Association. Cardiology and stress test experience.

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk provides a salary range to comply with the New York State Salary Transparency law. The salary range for the role is $132,225.91 - $181,454.59 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. Salaries do not include bonuses, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
