Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Family Services Manager within the Supervised Visitation Center (SVC), this per diem position is responsible for observing and ensuring the overall safety of children and noncustodial (visiting) parents during supervised visitation in an objective and non‑judgmental manner. The Bilingual Room Monitor must possess verbal and written fluency in English and another language, preferably Brazilian Portuguese, and must complete required observation reports in the relevant languages within the identified timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main contact for the visiting parent and child during supervised visits.
  • Greet visiting parent with Case Manager and Security and maintain observation notes during security screening.
  • Enter the visitation room with the child and custodial parent through Case Manager and Security.
  • Observe on‑site visits, assessing need for intervention and serving as an observer unless intervention is required for safety.
  • Intervene during visits to ensure emotional, psychological, and physical safety of the child and visiting parent.
  • Redirect inappropriate conversations or behaviors of the visiting parent.

  • Contact the Case Manager when appropriate or when in need of support; coordinate medical emergencies or restroom breaks.
  • Make a determination to terminate a visit when warranted by the SVC policies or when the visiting parent or child request a termination.
  • Complete hand‑written objective observation reports for each scheduled visit and submit them to the Case Manager within two business days.
  • Relay any concerns regarding the visit to the Case Manager before, during, or after the scheduled visit.
  • Relay any mandated reporting issues immediately to the Case Manager.
  • Participate in CONNECT Program meetings and complete relevant administrative tasks.
  • Submit bi‑weekly timesheets.
  • Assist in maintaining order and cleanliness of the SVC Visitation Room after visits.
  • Communicate regularly with Family Services Manager regarding visitation scheduling and availability.
  • Attend SVC staff meetings quarterly and monthly CONNECT All Team Meetings as scheduled.
  • Maintain relevant certification and participate in trainings and professional development.
  • Maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Participate in scheduled supervision with the Family Services Manager.
  • Participate in training required by CONNECT, the Supervised Visitation Network, and funder Department of Public Health.
  • Participate in trainings through the Supervised Visitation Network provided by the Family Services Manager.

Qualifications

  • Strong boundaries, communication skills, compassion, empathy, patience, discretion, confidentiality, integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written proficiency in English and a second language, preferably Brazilian Portuguese.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of client‑related issues including confidentiality, duty to warn, mandatory abuse/neglect reporting, child development and domestic violence.
  • Commitment to providing families with safe and quality visitation services.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse styles, abilities, motivations and backgrounds.
  • Commitment to ending domestic violence as a social problem and understanding of the dynamics between an abusive partner and the victim parent, as well as the abuser’s parenting role.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Attendance to work promptly and regularly.
  • Precise and accurate performance.
  • Legible and neat handwriting.
