Virtualization Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Virtualization Engineer to support a globally distributed, hyperconverged private cloud hosting environment designed for enterprise and tactical applications. This environment leverages VMware technologies to deliver a secure, scalable, and resilient Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) architecture across multiple sites worldwide.

The solution currently utilizes VMware products such as ESXi, vSAN, NSX, vCloud Foundation, and Aria Automation to enable advanced virtualization and automation capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design, implement, and maintain virtualization architecture for a multi-tenant private cloud environment.
• Develop, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for VMware product deployment and lifecycle management.
• Support application onboarding by provisioning virtualized environments using automation tools.
• Perform daily administration of VMware components, including patching, upgrades, and configuration management.
• Monitor resource utilization and proactively identify capacity requirements.
• Implement hardening measures for VMware products aligned with industry best practices and cybersecurity compliance standards.
• Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for complex virtualization issues.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation, including system diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
• Provide on-call support for after-hours production incidents.
• Recommend improvements to enhance security, scalability, and performance across virtualization, storage, and compute layers.

Required Qualifications

• Senior-level experience with VMware technologies: ESXi, vSAN, NSX, vCloud Foundation, Aria Automation.
• Strong automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
• Strong troubleshooting skills across the full technology stack: network, storage, server, and applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Skills

• Knowledge of DoD STIGs and vulnerability management processes.
• Hands-on experience with container platforms and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
• Understanding of Kubernetes networking (CNI) and storage (CSI).
• Familiarity with Helm charts, container image management, and GitOps tools (Argo CD, Flux).
