Target hiring range for this position will be between $51,346–$64,473 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Marketing Statement

This is a position in the Department of Neurology at Northwestern University. The research group led by Dr. Lesli Skolarus focuses on stroke prevention and survivorship, employing hospital, community, and technology-based approaches that emphasize implementation, community partnership, and participant-centered design.

We are seeking a Research Project Coordinator to support multiple ongoing projects, including a multi-site text-messaging–based study, a web platform designed to improve positive emotion among stroke survivors and caregivers, and a multi-phase design study to develop a future intervention for stroke survivors and caregivers.

The coordinator may recruit participants, conduct in-person and remote semi-structured interviews at multiple follow-up timepoints, participate in qualitative analysis, and assist with manuscript preparation. Recruitment may occur at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and community partner hospitals, with study visits conducted in the community or virtually. The position will also support partnerships with community organizations, help maintain and expand relationships with community leaders, research teams, and collaborators, and assist with IRB submissions and academic presentations.

This role operates in a dynamic research environment where project priorities, timelines, and methods may evolve. The coordinator must navigate ambiguity, adapt to changing needs, and independently determine the steps required to advance work. Spanish language skills are welcome.

Job Summary

Manages daily operations of biomedical and/or social-behavioral research studies involving multidisciplinary teams, sponsors, and stakeholders. Monitors study performance, analyzes results, and supervises development and implementation of new protocols. Assigns work, supervises study staff, ensures quality control, and develops budgets, grant, and administrative procedures. May co-author scientific papers and coordinate writing, submission, and administration of grants. Ensures compliance with Good Clinical Practices, local, state, and federal regulations, and institutional policies.

Specific Responsibilities

Technical

  • Leads execution and control of biomedical and/or social science projects or research studies.
  • Coordinates processing and analysis of data, conducts experimental tests and procedures.
  • Develops new and/or revised research methodologies.
  • Ensures completion of study activities per protocol, including recruitment.
  • Ascertains pretreatment and eligibility requirements.
  • Obtains informed consent.
  • Registers participant with appropriate sponsor.
  • Interviews and obtains medical and social histories.
  • Collects data from medical records.
  • Administers, schedules, and/or scores tests.

Administration

  • Oversees and manages collection, maintenance, analysis, and evaluation of data used in grant submissions, presentations, and publications.
  • Ensures that information is correctly entered into databases.
  • Assists PI in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, formatting, editing, and preparing tables, charts, graphs, progress, and final reports.
  • Coordinates between sponsoring agencies, collaborating organizations, and other research or educational institutions.
  • Ensures that all study documents meet regulatory guidelines and are completed timely.

Finance

  • Manages lab/study budget and inventory, including purchasing of supplies and services necessary and project related.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of study supplies.
  • Distributes intra-departmental charges.
  • Negotiates with vendors, obtains quotes, and arranges for demos of large equipment.

Supervision

  • Trains, directs, assigns duties to, and supervises research staff, students, residents, and fellows.
  • Acts as a mentor regarding education of junior coordinators.

Miscellaneous: Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in social or health science or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and 3 years’ research experience.
  • MS degree in social or health science or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and 1 year research experience.
  • Supervisory or project management experience required.
  • Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with participants and recertify every 3 years.
