Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences at the College of Health Professions, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
About the College
The College of Health Professions is the largest at MUSC by student enrollment and has educated thousands of students since its founding in 1966. It is a national leader in health professions education, research, and innovation, located in historic Charleston.
About the Department
The Department of Clinical Sciences houses seven academic and professional practice programs:
- Anesthesia for Nurses (Doctorate)
- Cardiovascular Perfusion (Master’s)
- Genetic Counseling (Master’s)
- Pathologists’ Assistant (Master’s)
- Physician Assistant Studies (Master’s)
- Physician Assistant Studies (Master’s‑Hybrid) – in process
- Healthcare Studies (Bachelor of Science)
Programs are nationally recognized: Anesthesia for Nurses ranked 15th, Physician Assistant 35th by U.S. News & World Report; Cardiovascular Perfusion is the second largest in the country. The department comprises over 31 faculty, 7 staff, and more than 440 students.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic vision and administrative oversight to advance the department’s teaching, research, and clinical missions.
- Manage administrative, budgetary, scholarly, and instructional functions.
- Balance administrative leadership with teaching, clinical practice, and/or research responsibilities.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and the MUSC Health enterprise to advance interprofessional education and clinical practice.
- Implement innovative ideas and practices within the department.
Qualifications
- Health professional holding a Ph.D. or other terminal academic degree (doctoral degree required).
- Significant academic and administrative experience, including leadership in a clinical science or related profession.
- Record of scholarship, teaching, and/or research.
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and collaborative skills.
- Growth mindset and ability to implement innovative practices.
Other Information
Location: Charleston, SC. The MUSC healthcare system includes 16 hospitals and more than 350 telehealth sites.
