Overview

St. Bonaventure University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Criminology, with responsibilities to begin in Fall 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching: introductory criminology; advanced courses such as criminological theory, research methods, and the senior capstone; twelve credit hours per semester.
  • Specific areas of specialization preferred in corrections, parole, and policing, but other areas are welcome.
  • Assist in developing connections with local, state, and federal agencies to create fieldwork opportunities for majors.
  • Academic advising for criminology majors; participate in university service; maintain an active research agenda.
  • Teach courses consistent with the schedule of classes and approved course descriptions and curricular guidelines.

Qualifications

  • PhD in criminology or a related field by August 2026.

Faculty responsibilities and workload

The faculty member will teach courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and approved descriptions and guidelines established by the Faculty and approved by the Dean and the Provost. Non-teaching assignments include instructional development; academic advising; serving on department/university committees; and other responsibilities described in the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook.

Scheduling and workload policies

This is an appointed faculty position governed by the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook. Days, with occasional evening or weekend hours as required.

Instructional, Advising, Institutional Service, Professional Growth, and Additional Responsibilities

  • Instructional: teaching responsibilities include preparation of syllabi, grading, supervision of laboratories and practicum, and direction of theses, honors projects, and independent study.
  • Academic advising: maintain office hours; meet with students; assist during registration; know degree requirements.
  • Institutional service: participate in activities and attend meetings and official university events.
  • Professional growth and development: maintain program of professional development; stay current; engage in research and activity.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Provost or Dean.

Qualifications note

Possesses the appropriate professional degree or license, or exceptional contributions may compensate; demonstrated teaching ability, scholarly promise, and interest in student development.
