9-10th Grade ELA Instructor (Spring 2026)
Join SEO (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity) as a 9‑10th grade ELA Instructor for the Spring 2026 term. This part‑time, seasonal role is based at the UC Law campus in San Francisco and involves coaching high school Scholars through a rigorous college‑prep curriculum.
Position Overview
Instructors will join SEO’s community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college‑prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school Scholars. Using our original curriculum and a student‑centered approach to teaching and learning, instructors support Scholars’ journey to a competitive college and beyond. Instructors coach and facilitate learning, promote depth of understanding, and serve as a planner and evaluator of learning outcomes.
Schedule & Hours
Saturdays, 9:00 am‑4:00 pm (with a 50‑minute lunch). Instructors are allotted 10 maximum hours per week (Standard and Flex) during their seasonal employment. Standard Hours:
- Saturdays, 9:00‑4:00 pm – 6 hours
Instructional Responsibilities
- Teach four 50‑minute ELA periods to two groups of approximately 25‑30 Scholars, following provided lesson plans and meeting objectives.
- Utilize Brightspace (LMS), Nearpod, G‑Suite applications and Zoom chat to support a blended learning environment.
- Read, internalize, and practice all lesson plans and materials prior to teaching, adjusting pacing and activities as needed.
- Calculate grades according to rubrics, provide actionable, growth‑oriented feedback, and maintain an up‑to‑date electronic gradebook on Brightspace (within one‑week turnaround).
- Promote an energetic, engaging classroom culture that encourages student connection, investment, and positive relationships.
- Attend all scheduled meetings, professional development trainings, check‑ins, and debriefs; respond to emails and Zoom chats promptly.
- Meet with the instructional coach at least twice per semester to receive and implement feedback aligned with SEO’s Indicators of Effective Instruction.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a content‑related field.
- Expertise and depth of knowledge in English Language Arts, writing, and reading skills.
- Comfortable with and skilled at working with and navigating technological learning systems.
- Practice of student‑centered pedagogy.
- High‑school classroom teaching experience.
- Preferred: secondary education degree and certification; knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL); instructional technology certification or training; enthusiasm for discussions on societal challenges.
Compensation & Hours
Compensated on a competitive hourly scale starting at $50 per hour. This position averages 10 hours per week. The position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
