In one sentence

Research, create, and organizes documentation to communicate key technologies and processes to internal and client audiences, supporting project delivery by creating materials that document the solution, including architecture, developer, operations, and user references. 

What will your job look like?

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify audience needs and define documentation requirements
  • Work with internal and client subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop an in-depth understanding of the product or technology
  • Gain additional technical knowledge through independent research and hands-on experimentation
  • Produce an array of high-quality, audience-appropriate documentation such as developer reference guides, software tutorials, knowledge articles, system architecture descriptions and diagrams, white papers, and blog posts
  • Participate as a member of one or more project teams to plan and prioritize work, report status and blockers, and demonstrate results
  • Structure and organize wikis and other shared information systems to make content easier to find and use
  • Plan and design technical training sessions, and create learning materials such as presentations and exercises

All you need is...

  • At least 4 years of experience in technical writing or other relevant subject. (Experience of documenting software products a strong advantage.)
  • Experience in working with and excellent  knowledge of at least one authoring tool.
  • Experience with the technical and business aspects of software development.
  • Prior experience in Programming
  • Ability to comprehend technical information and explain it to audiences of varying knowledge and skill
  • Experience interviewing and obtaining product information from SMEs, as well as performing independent technical research and discovery
  • Experience planning documentation scope and estimating delivery schedules
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS
      

Any of the following are a plus:

  • Experience with wiki-based tools such as Confluence
  • Familiarity with Sharepoint
  • Familiarity with markup languages such as Markdown or AsciiDoc
  • Comfortable looking at software code and entering commands on the command line
  • Experience using source control tools such as Git or Subversion
  • Experience working in an Agile project management environment
  • Experience working with delivery teams in a software development or cloud computing environment
