Head of Residential Conveyancing

Location: Watford, Hertfordshire (Hybrid working - office presence required several days per week). Salary: Competitive and negotiable depending on experience. Job Type: Full-time, Permanent. Start Date: ASAP.

An established, multi-service law firm based in Hertfordshire is seeking a Head of Residential Conveyancing to lead their conveyancing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior solicitor, licensed conveyancer, or CILEX-qualified lawyer with strong technical knowledge and leadership capability to take the next step in their career.

The Opportunity

You’ll oversee a small but busy residential conveyancing team, handling a varied caseload yourself while driving service standards, compliance, and client satisfaction. The firm prides itself on delivering high-quality, personalised legal services and is looking for someone who shares that commitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a full residential property caseload from instruction through to post-completion
  • Advise clients on all aspects of the conveyancing process, including sales, purchases, re-mortgages, leasehold/freehold, new builds, and transfers of equity
  • Draft, review, and check legal documentation
  • Ensure compliance with CQS, SRA, AML, and internal risk management protocols
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and encourage cross-departmental collaboration
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and day-to-day leadership to junior conveyancers and support staff
  • Play a key role in business development and operational improvement within the department

About You

  • Qualified Solicitor, Licensed Conveyancer, or Legal Executive (CILEX)
  • Minimum of 4 years' PQE with solid residential conveyancing experience
  • Comfortable handling a broad range of conveyancing transactions independently
  • Confident managing relationships throughout the conveyancing chain
  • Strong understanding of Money Laundering Regulations, Solicitors Accounts Rules, and SRA/CQS compliance
  • Prior team management or supervisory experience preferred
  • IT-literate with experience using legal case management systems
  • Proactive, highly organised, and focused on delivering excellent client care
  • Able to reliably commute to Watford a few times a week
