Carbon Manager – BAM UK & Ireland

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail‑oriented Carbon Manager to assist in delivering key workstreams related to embodied carbon management within our Energy Scotland team. This role will be responsible for whole life carbon management on a range of projects, leading on stakeholder engagement, carbon reduction opportunities, and innovation initiatives.
Location: The role will primarily be based at Kilsyth or Inverness, with site visits across Scotland. BAM operates a flexible working policy.
Responsibilities
- Lead carbon management activities across multiple projects within the Energy Scotland team, acting as the primary liaison for managing supply‑chain partners in carbon reduction efforts and ensuring alignment with BAM’s sustainability strategy.
- Opportunity identification and management: plan, coordinate, and chair monthly carbon meetings to discuss implementation progress; develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of opportunities for carbon reduction; work collaboratively with the wider supply‑chain team to identify and implement whole life carbon reduction opportunities.
- Carbon data: compile construction emissions data and prepare reports for submission using client tools; provide analytical support to quantify potential carbon savings throughout the project development.
- Reporting & deliverables: develop and periodically update the Carbon Management Plan (CMP) and embodied carbon assessments; coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to keep documentation up to date; report on project advancements, carbon reduction opportunities, and actions as required.
- Continuous improvement: lead the development and testing of innovation opportunities identified by the client team; foster a culture of continuous improvement by tracking and sharing best practices; contribute lessons learned to the wider BAM UK&I business through case studies and knowledge transfer activities.
Required Qualifications
- Strong background in sustainability, embodied carbon assessment, or environmental management in infrastructure or construction projects.
- Understanding of carbon management principles and PAS2080.
- Understanding of industry best practices, opportunities and methods for reducing carbon emissions from infrastructure construction.
- Familiarity with carbon accounting principles, life cycle assessment (LCA), and relevant software tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multi‑disciplinary teams, including design, construction, and client teams.
- Strong project management, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with attention to detail.
Desirable
- Experience in large‑scale infrastructure design and/or construction.
- Experience with reporting platforms such as Evotix (or equivalent).
- Degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field.
- Chartered status or working towards a relevant professional accreditation (e.g., ISEP (formerly IEMA), ICE, CIBSE).
- Prior experience working on major infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of government policies and regulations related to carbon reduction.
