About Role

The Financial Controller acts as the key operational lead in finance, supporting the Head Director of Finance and ensuring robust financial operations as the business scales. In a credit card issuing environment, this role is hands‑on—overseeing daily cash settlements, building resilient processes, and implementing tight controls. The Controller ensures timely and accurate reporting and compliance, understanding that even minor errors in settlement can have major consequences. This is a high‑impact position demanding precision, strong risk awareness, and an ability to evolve processes that safeguard the business in a complex, regulated space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, statutory financial statements, and ad hoc financial reports.
  • Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Continuously review and enhance internal control frameworks and accounting policies.

Regulatory Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance and accurate reporting with relevant financial regulators.
  • Coordinate the preparation of audit files and regulatory submissions.
  • Act as the primary contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies.

Finance Operations

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and cash flow management.
  • Monitor liquidity and settlement processes, escalating issues as needed to the Head of Finance.
  • Supervise and mentor junior finance staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback and development opportunities.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support the implementation and optimisation of accounting systems and reporting tools.
  • Identify and drive automation and efficiency improvements across finance workflows.

Strategic Support

  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Support capital raising, debt financing, and securitisation initiatives in collaboration with the Head of Finance.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Experience in financial control within regulated financial services or fintech environments (credit card issuing is a plus).
  • Strong technical accounting skills and an ability to deliver accurate financial reporting.
  • Proficient in financial systems and process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
