Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Iowa or compact state)
  
• BLS certification required prior to first shift
  
• ACLS certification required prior to first shift
  
• Minimum two (2) years of bedside critical care or Med/Surg clinical experience
  
• Experience in Medical-Surgical nursing or related specialties preferred
  

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments for all patients within 8 hours of admission
  
• Develop and implement individualized care plans with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in electronic medical records
  
• Participate in patient rehabilitation programs and deliver direct clinical support using the nursing process
  
• Initiate discharge planning and patient education from admission
  
• Communicate changes in patient status to the healthcare team to ensure continuity and safety
  
• Supervise and provide direction to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and orientees
  
• Promote patient and employee safety, following hospital policies and procedures
  
• Contribute to unit teamwork and participate in team-building activities
  
• Maintain communication with management regarding supplies, equipment, and training needs
  
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities as requested after orientation
  
• Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education for nursing jobs
