    The incumbent serves as an International Broadcaster for the Hausa Service, with responsibility for conceiving, planning, researching, writing and broadcasting original audio/video scripts of a highly complex nature and for providing Internet content for the website. Work requires fluency in reading and speaking Hausa and English.

    Responsibilities

    Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Writes news-related stories for use in radio, television or Internet postings. Uses a variety of sources, including area experts, daily newspapers or magazines. Prepares integrated, highly-targeted, well-balanced scripts for radio/TV program segments or Internet web presentations that captures the attention of the audience.
  • Writes feature stories on a variety of subjects for radio, TV or web postings.
  • Adapts and/or translates material, which may include simultaneous translations.
  • Edits broadcast segments, including stringer reports.
  • Participates in the development of regularly scheduled radio or TV programs. Initiates coverage of news and features in consultation with senior editors. Participates fully in coverage of major events, and in the preparation and execution of broadcast remotes.
  • Initiates and conducts original interviews with a wide variety of subjects and news sources.
  • Voices material for or during radio and/or TV broadcasts.
  • Contributes to the production elements, including editing of taped material, evaluation of stringer reports and production of live air shows.
  • Prepares and/or presents news and feature materials in a studio or on location for radio/TV simulcast. May serve as show host.

    Qualifications
    Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level which is directly related to this line of work AND fluency in the English and Hausa languages that demonstrates ability to read, write and report in both languages.

    Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

    Specialized experience for this position must demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability in broadcast journalism by writing, editing, interviewing, reporting and broadcasting stories for radio, television and preparing material for websites in the Hausa language.
