Firing Technician

Scope of Position:Firing technician within the CET Erwin Firing group with a primary focus on Firing Center kilns. This technician will be responsible for daily shift coverage of kiln operations, routine preventive maintenance as well as assisting firing process & equipment engineers in support of manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, process control improvement, and 6-Sigma.Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Load/unload of kilns

• Startup/monitoring of kilns

• 1st level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues

• Conducts routine preventive maintenance activities

• Assists and directs trades/contractors during shutdown maintenance activities

• Provides backup support to lead technician with regards to scheduling, recipe reviews and coordination of experiments with experimenters

• Provides backup support for lead mechanical technician with regards to placing work orders, attending trades scheduling meetings, identifying root cause mechanical issues and working with engineers to implement corrective actions.

• Replacing thermocouples on all kilns

• Maintain, adhere, and train to documentation

• Maintain emphasis on housekeeping and safe work practices in kiln area

Travel Requirements: You can expect about 10% travel with the possibility for international travel depending on support project assignments.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Your typical work schedule will be M-F second or third shift most likely although you should expect to have flexibility for off shift and weekend coverage is expected to support project assignments including overtime.

Required Education and Experience:

You should have Associates Degree in a Technical Field with two years min experience, or five plus years of experience in related field with:

• Knowledge of gas and electric kilns, combustion technology• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word• Familiarity with Pi and TabWare• Ability to handle multiple tasks• Ability to monitor experiments• Ability to work with data and communicate results from data• Strong organizational skills, rigorous attention to detail and ability to deal with complexity• Self-motivated with ability to function independently with minimal supervision• Strong work ethic and desire to exceed expectations• Understands problem solving tools (KT) and where to use themDesired skills:• Experience with DMAIC, 6 sigma, and Process Control Process Discipline• Technically curious and strong mechanical aptitude• Knowledge and experience in ceramic thermal processing at a development, engineering, and/or production level• Knowledge/experience in ceramic substrate/filter manufacturing (specifically firing)• Experience working in a production environmentSoft Skills:
