Product Development Engineer

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

We innovate, design and build high precision optical connectors and other related fiber optic telecommunication products. We want someone who is passionate to collaborate with project leaders, process development engineers and manufacturing engineers to craft and deliver high volume products to plants across the globe. At a minimum, you should be able to:

  • Craft dynamic mechanical designs of optical connectors and related cable assemblies
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Analyze and improve current designs and build new variants
  • Seek out design risks with failure mode analysis
  • Build and deliver innovative solutions using problem solving techniques
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and build components for high volume precision injection molding and metal machining processes
  • Lead and improve design efforts with engineers
  • Oversee and improve product evaluations with internal test labs
  • Mentor technicians how to perform required experiments
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate designs and performance data
  • Strong work ethic to meet development project landmarks

Required Competencies:
  • B.S Mechanical Engineering required
  • Proven ability to pursue meaningful problems by developing creative solutions with deep knowledge of the underlying engineering principles.
  • Basic use of 3D CAD software
  • Intermediate PC skills with MS Office
  • Scientific curiosity and creative mindset
  • Self-starter who will deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Proven interpersonal skills
  • Organized with planning and time management skills
  • Works effectively with global teams
  • Positive attitude, flexible, self-starter, committed work ethic and creative

Desired Competencies:

  • Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (ASME Y14.5 2009)
  • Understanding of precision manufacturing and measurement techniques
  • Familiarity of injection molding and extrusion
  • Working knowledge of ProEngineer Creo
  • Root Cause Analysis tools (FMEA)
