Engineering Projects Co-Op

Candidate Requirements:

An undergraduate enrolled in college or university as a full time student, studying industrial or  mechanical engineering.  Should have completed at least 4 semesters of study, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 / 4.0.  Passion for learning about and contributing to our business, and a commitment to working safely and with high quality standards.

 

Duration:

Start and end dates are flexible, starting around late September 2018 or early October 2018 and ending around December 2018 or January 2019. 

 

Workplace Description:

Voith coop students are exposed to a general overview of our company, customers, and operations. 

Voith operates a roll service center in Austell, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, dedicated to serving our customers in the pulp and paper industry.  Work performed includes inspection and repair of rolls used in machines for making paper.  Repair operations include grinding, drilling, balancing, machining, metal flame spray, painting, replacement of damaged components, and installation of rubber roll covers.  The facility is approximately 83,000 square feet, with approximately 40 employees.


 

Possible Job Duties Include:

Work with Industrial Engineer to develop a format for written work instructions for roll service operations.  Help develop actual work instructions

 

Work with our new computerized coordinate measurement machine (CMM) to accurately measure roll components:

  • learn to use the CMM
  • help develop written instructions for the CMM
  • care, handling, cleaning and calibration
  • how to interface the CMM to electronic inspection documents

 

Work with our new computerized rubber extrusion machine:

  • help develop written work instructions
  • care, handling, cleaning and calibration
  • create list of recommended spare parts

 

Work with our new computerized gang drilling machine:

  • help develop written work instructions
  • care, handling, cleaning and calibration
  • create list of recommended tooling and spare parts
