Job Description

Bosch Packaging Technology leads the world in breadth and sophistication of packaging systems for food and pharmaceutical packaging. Due to the rapidly growing demand for automation in North America, we are seeking a Senior Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer to take a leading role in creating innovative robotic solutions for high-speed automated packaging.  You will work as part of a team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers to develop configurable platforms and custom solutions that enable our customers to excel in highly competitive industries.

  • Deliver breakthroughs and advance the state of the art of robotic packaging with innovations integrating mechanisms, motion control, vision, and software.

  • Create new configurable packaging platforms and apply commercial off-the-shelf solutions to meet market requirements for performance, cost, and lead-time.

  • Own mechanical design of equipment from initial order through acceptance at customer site.

  • Perform load calculations for sizing servo-drive and pneumatic-actuator components.

  • Perform technical calculations in the areas of strength of materials, kinematics, kinetics and vacuum flow.

  • Use CAD tools to automate generation of order-specific components.

  • Research new technologies to gain competitive advantage.

  • Identify product and engineering process improvement opportunities; lead and participate in continuous improvement projects.

  • Visit customer sites to experience application challenges, connect with customers, and support sales and service.

  • Work with other Bosch sites around the world on solutions for regional customers.

  • Mentor and share expertise with colleagues.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of high-speed-machinery Product Engineering experience. 
  • 5+ years of design experience with 3D parametric CAD systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Mechatronic or Mechanical Engineering.

  • 3+ years of experience engineering robotic pick and place solutions.

  • Drive for excellence by continuous improvement and sense of urgency.

  • Outstanding interdisciplinary creativity.

  • Ability to apply a hard math-and-physics approach to solving machinery kinematics and dynamics problems. Must be capable of modeling system dynamics in Matlab, Visual Basic, C++ or similar, as well as utilizing high-level FEM and mechanism modeling tools.

  • Strong solid-modeling and large-assembly-management skills, preferably including complex surfacing, preferably in SolidWorks.

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks analysis tools or similar.

  • Knowledge of safety of machinery risk assessment, and related standards.   

  • Strong customer focus, with the ability to recognize and understand customer needs and translate to measurable product attributes. 

  • Facility with statistics and structured problem solving methods such as 8D or Six Sigma. Some level of Six-Sigma certification desired.

  • Interest in identifying problems, developing corrective action plans and implementing process improvement solutions within work area.

  • Ability to thrive in a self-directed team environment; leads, contributes, and participates in cross-functional teams, ensures an environment that fosters collaboration, effective working relationships with and across groups.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; with the ability to partner with other functions and foster teamwork internally and externally.

  • Advanced skills in MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Appetite for challenging situations with tight time constraints.
