As an integral member of the Upstream Commercial Organization, the Land Analyst / Commercial Negotiator is part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the identification and capture of exploration, development and production opportunities for Imperial Oil Resources and ExxonMobil Canada. This position involves direct external interfaces, as well as extensive coordination with senior management, project staff and other ExxonMobil companies.

The Mineral Land Analyst provides analytical support for acquisition, maintenance and disposition of leases within a designated geographic area. In coordination with the Contracts Analyst and the Mineral Negotiator, the Mineral Land Analyst plays an invaluable role within the Land Department by leveraging Land expertise and skills to enhance the value of Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil Canada’s Land Assets. 

The Surface Land Analyst provides analytical support for acquisition and maintenance of surface leases and other related agreements within a designated geographic area, and working as part of a team with the Surface Land Agents.
Additionally, the Analyst has to represent Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil Canada with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity when interacting with the AER, the Department of Energy, mineral rights owners and associates from other Oil and Gas Companies.

The Commercial Land Negotiator’s role is to acquire and manage the rights to oil and gas assets in different geographic regions across Canada.  In addition to acting as a liaison between various stakeholders, Commercial Land Negotiators draft and negotiate land agreements to support joint venture opportunities and projects to maximize the value of Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil’s assets.

Specifically, the Analyst could be responsible for:

  • Maintaining Data Integrity of Land Records - setting up newly acquired leases, updating the Land Record System and ensuring Imperial and ExxonMobil Canada’s mineral interest and acreage position are accurately represented
  • Managing all mineral analyst work related to the assigned geographic area – from running lease expiry reports, responding to offset and default notices and drafting leases and lease assignments, lease rental payments, etc.
  • Liaising with royalty and revenue accounting – providing crucial information to ensure accounting records are updated, processing rental invoices, investigating non-payment of invoices
  • Acting as the focal point for communication with internal and external stakeholders and providing a timely response to queries or requests for information
  • Preparation of Freehold Lease and Right of Way Agreement documents
  • Acquiring Proximity Consents, Crossing Agreements, Road Use Agreements and issuance of the same with third parties.
  • Preparation and Registration of Caveats and Plans with the Land Titles Offices
  • Prepare and process documents associated with acquisition, divestment and transfers of ownership
  • Analysis of different types of mineral lease agreements and titles
  • Manage information on the Land Records System, CS Explorer
  • Preparation of regulatory applications
  • Draft lease assignments, subleases and continuation/expiry notices
  • Special projects as required
  • Lead integrated, multifunctional effort to prepare and implement  negotiation strategies and contracting plans for major commercial  agreements. Develop knowledge of industry regulations in various jurisdictions.
  • Assist with negotiating contract terms, amendments and resolving issues with joint venture associates
  • Develop and maintain industry network to facilitate joint venture communication and ensure early notification of new business opportunities

  • Bachelor of Commerce Degree, Land Administration Degree, or related post-secondary Degree or program
